Racing and Relaxing in Florida

March 23, 2006

Hello to all of the new visitors and the returning visitors alike. I hope you are enjoying our adventure stories and photographs.

We arrived back in Orlando just two weeks ago. The first couple of days were spent catching up on laundry, servicing the RV, and visiting family. Then on Tuesday, I dropped Cricket off at my sisters house and the boys and I drove down to Sebring for the "12 Hours of Sebring" sports car race. The gates didn't open until Wednesday morning, but I wanted to get there early to get a good spot. Even then I was still about 100th RV in line.

There were actually a bunch of us that gathered together every year for the race and they trickled in over the next couple of days. By Friday night we had a full camp with two motorhomes, two pup-up trailers, five tents, and three large canopies.

Over the four days at the track I took 1167 photos and Adam, Lucas, and I collected 208 autographs. It turned out to be one of the best races held at Sebring in a long time. There were also a few records broken. History was also made with the all new Audi R10 DIESEL taking the win!

On Sunday morning, we broke camp and departed the track saying out good-byes until next year.

Our original plan was for me to stop in Orlando, pick up Cricket, hook up the Blazer and continue back out west. However while driving back I gave Cricket a call to let her know that we were on the way. She then informed me that she had actually gotten busy with work and needed to stay a few more days. While here visiting friends, she has picked up 4 loans from referrals and needed some time to get things started before hitting the road again.

It has worked out well because Adam's hard drive crashed on his laptop and needed to be fixed. And it has seemed more like a vacation here because when we're on the road we're constantly busy going and seeing new things.

So we are going to be here through this weekend, probably leaving on Sunday. We're not sure exactly which route we're going to take west. Maybe I-10 for the most part, but we may take a detour up to I-40 for a brief moment to have the satellite internet installed.

Come back next week to find out.

See you soon,
Mark
