Geocaching is a global GPS hunt where almost 300,000 caches have been hidden in
over 220 countries. I've heard about Geocaching a couple of years ago, but
haven't started participating until recently. And it has led us to some
interesting places. Below I'll be listing some of the more interesting locations
of the caches I've found.
For more information about GeoCaching, visit the official website at www.geocaching.com.
7-11-2006: Mukluk News Cache
A cache hidden at KIAM Christian Radio station where the staff are very friendly. It also let me know of a great radio station to listen to while up in Alaska.
6-16-2006: Babe
A giant statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe located near Klamath, California along Hwy 101.
6-16-2006: That Sucker Is Tall!
The worlds largest totem pole made of a redwood tree located in McKinleyville, California.
5-13-2006: Meet
the Flintstones
A cool RV park south of the Grand Canyon became this virtual cache. All the
buildings are themed like Bedrock.
5-13-2006: Moqui
Station Cache
A remote location along the old stagecoach route between Flagstaff and the Grand
Canyon. On the site still exists the foundation of the main building and a dry
well.
5-12-2006: A
Journey to the Center of the Earth
A virtual cache located south of the Grand Canyon. It is a 3/4 mile cave into
the earth created by a lava tube. Just a few feet below the surface, this lava
tube stays a constant 32 degrees at one end to 40 degrees at the other.
4-24-2006: The
Colorado Volunteers
Located on the road to Pecos near Santa Fe, NM, this cache was located along
Highway 50 above the site of two monuments commemorating a Civil War battle.
4-23-2006: Stagecoach
Robbery Strongbox Cache
Located close to Santa Fe, NM, this was our largest cache find. Based on an old
wild west stagecoach robbery, this large box was loaded with western themed
treasures.
4-18-2006: HQ
Trail Cache
This one was our first find. Located in the Davis Mountains State Park , TX
along one of the hiking trails. This was also the only one we attempted without
a GPS so we had to go by the clues and look under every fallen tree.
